The sparsely packed auditorium hardly took away from the mood set by “Dooth”, a play staged by the Sifar Theater Group on Sunday evening. The moving yet funny story of a ‘dooth’ — a reliable postman who, in simpler times, was the village’s messenger of love, happiness and sorrow. This deliverer of life’s changes receives an unexpected message himself one night — from Yamdooth, the God of death.
This inevitability sets the postman, played endearingly by Bhaskar Shewalkar, on a reflective journey as he looks back at his childhood days, the peoples’ lives he touched and love lost. The performances were top-notch. Feroze Ahmed as Death was convincingly creepy, with his stinging sense of humor and ominous body language. Atul Rastogi as Babloo deserves a special mention for the laughs he evoked.
